Welcome to Wildridings Primary School!
Design Technology
At Wildridings Primary School, we believe Design and Technology (D&T) should be an exciting, hands-on subject that inspires creativity, curiosity and confidence. Through D&T, our children become designers, technologists, engineers, chefs and builders—using their imagination, research and practical skills to solve real and meaningful problems.
Our D&T curriculum is designed to equip children with the creative, technical and practical expertise they need to tackle everyday challenges and thrive in a rapidly changing, technological world. It provides opportunities for pupils to design, make and evaluate their own products, developing their ability to think critically, work collaboratively and reflect thoughtfully on their outcomes to seek improvements or evaluate their real-world success.
We ensure that Design and Technology at Wildridings links meaningfully with other areas of the curriculum. Children apply skills from Maths (such as measuring and geometry), Art (developing ideas, sketching and understanding aesthetics), and Science (exploring materials, forces and mechanisms), allowing them to apply their technological knowledge in purposeful and relevant ways. We also support children’s oracy development, encouraging them to share, explain and evaluate ideas confidently through discussion and teamwork.
Throughout their D&T learning, children explore how products are designed and made, both today and in the past. This helps them develop a deeper understanding of how design and technology have shaped the world we live in and continue to influence our everyday lives. They learn to evaluate existing products and consider the environmental, social and cultural impact of design decisions.
At Wildridings, we encourage our pupils to take risks, learn from mistakes and celebrate their creativity and perseverance. Our goal is to spark a lifelong interest in how things work and how they can be improved—nurturing problem-solvers, critical thinkers and future innovators.
