Eco Council & Forest School

Our Eco Council play a vital role in helping Wildridings Primary School care for the environment and build a more sustainable future. Made up of enthusiastic pupil representatives from Years 1-6, the council works together to promote eco-friendly habits and encourages them to use their voice on 'green issues.'

Eco Council have helped the school gain Eco Schools status for three consecutive years through a variety of initiatives including raising awareness around water and energy use throughout school, raising money for environmental charities and researching the school’s biodiversity.

Eco Council are committed to supporting and actioning the school’s Sustainability Plan and attend events such as Bracknell Forest Council’s Primary Climate Conference in order to increase our awareness and discover new initiatives we can use to support and improve our school environment.

Forest School provides children with valuable opportunities to learn, explore and develop in a natural outdoor environment. It builds confidence, independence and resilience as children take on challenges, solve problems and learn through practical experiences. Working collaboratively encourages communication, teamwork and positive relationships, while outdoor activities develop physical skills, coordination and an understanding of managing risks safely.

Spending time in nature supports children’s emotional wellbeing, helping them feel calm, develop curiosity and build a connection with the environment. Forest School also offers inclusive learning experiences where children with different strengths and needs can succeed. These opportunities develop essential life skills, encourage creativity and foster a lifelong love of learning.

Across this academic year we will be dedicating a specific space on our school site for Forest School sessions to start taking place. Miss Tutt, one of our HLTAs, is currently completing the Forest School training and will be looking to start sessions with targeted children later this year, however our intention is that next academic year (2027-28), all children across the school will at some point take part in Forest School. We had intended to utilise the double decker bus in order to help deliver the sessions. Sadly, however, it has been deemed unsafe, (please see the letter below from Bracknell Forest Council regarding this), but we do intend to use the same space near the Key Stage 2 playground but it will be transformed over the next few months as we endeavour to ensure children make the most of the great opportunities having a Forest School on site will bring.
