Welcome to Wildridings Primary School!
History
At Wildridings Primary School, our history curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and inspire a lifelong interest in the past. We aim to help children understand how history shapes the world we live in, exploring the processes of change, the diversity of societies, and the challenges people faced in different times. Our approach encourages children to think like historians, developing skills in enquiry, critical thinking, and interpretation.
Our history lessons are rooted in the National Curriculum for History, which emphasizes the importance of building historical knowledge while also developing key skills. Through engaging, hands-on activities, children are encouraged to ask questions, weigh evidence, and evaluate different perspectives. We believe that history should be active, creative, and meaningful, so we offer a range of real-life experiences, including visits to historical sites, role-playing, and interactive learning opportunities.
Throughout their history journey, children at Wildridings will develop the ability to:
- Ask perceptive questions and think critically about historical events and sources.
- Analyse and evaluate evidence, drawing conclusions from different viewpoints.
- Understand the diversity of past societies and reflect on how history influences their own identity and the world today.
- Make connections across subjects, linking history with geography, English, and other areas of the curriculum to deepen understanding.
By making links to other subjects, we encourage a broader, more integrated approach to learning. This allows children to make meaningful connections with the world around them, helping them to see history as a vital part of their education and personal development. Through this approach, we hope to inspire our pupils to become inquisitive, reflective individuals who can think independently and understand the relevance of history in shaping the future.
These interactive resources and fun websites will help children not only learn about history but also enjoy the process, engaging them with a range of activities, virtual tours, and games that bring historical events and figures to life.
