Continuous Provision
Aims Of Continuous Provision
At Wildridings, our play and enquiry-based curriculum fosters a lifelong love of learning. Building upon the solid foundations of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), our Key Stage 1 and Year 3 teachers continue to offer learning opportunities through a play-based approach. This approach encourages children to consolidate and build upon their skills, become critical thinkers, and develop resilience, helping them become independent, enthusiastic learners. We believe that learning through continuous provision is both developmentally appropriate and impactful, enabling children to make meaningful connections between their experiences in a rich, stimulating environment.
Why We Chose the Continuous Provision Approach
Learning through continuous provision offers numerous benefits:
- Ownership: Children take responsibility for their own learning, building confidence and independence.
- Inclusivity: This approach is accessible to all learners, empowering each child to engage at their own level.
- Creativity: Continuous provision nurtures imagination and creative expression, allowing children to explore and develop new ideas.
- Access to the National Curriculum: While learning through play, children still engage with the broader curriculum, ensuring a balanced educational experience.
- Clear Learning Expectations: We model learning behaviours and expectations, helping children understand what they are striving for.
- Skill Consolidation: Continuous provision provides frequent opportunities for children to revisit and reinforce key skills, knowledge, and understanding.
- Metacognition: Children develop the ability to reflect on their thinking and learning, becoming more aware of how they approach tasks.
- Oracy Development: The approach encourages verbal communication, collaboration, and dialogue, enhancing speaking and listening skills.
- Problem-Solving and Co-operation: Children develop critical life skills such as teamwork, negotiation, and resilience, working together to overcome challenges.
